The level of misting—usually a push-button choice of 3, or continuous dial—controls the rate of humidification. Some Taotronics humidifiers allow you to select a target to humidify: in this case, the mechanism will run to generate the target humidity.
Almost all Taotronics humidifiers have a manually turned 360⁰ adjustable nozzle. Most have a strong vertical mist that can rise as high as 2 ft. This upward rise keeps moisture from settling in the area around the humidifier. Most in this Taotronics review are ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers.
Even when there is a built-in humidistat, many users like to get a second opinion with a separate hygrometer—as the AcuRite 00613 Digital. (In fact, my dad uses this in our home, and I can confirm, they are quite helpful.)
One reason for this is that most built-in humidistats are installed on the power cord, so depending on mist direction and room airflow, the humidity reading can be misleading.
Most Taotronics are cool-mist ultrasonic humidifiers, which are relatively energy-efficient as a category. A few in the Taotronics product line are evaporative cool-mist units, which are even more energy-efficient.
Furthermore, complex controls pull power, so as a rule, humidifiers with straightforward user controls are more energy efficient.
Almost all Taotronics humidifiers have auto-shutoff, which kicks in if the humidifier has no more water or is otherwise disrupted. (In most of these, a fan will keep running a few minutes after shutoff, to dry the mechanism.)
Some even have a timer so you can set the humidifier to turn off after a specified number of hours.
Most Taotronics humidifiers have an indicator light at least, with some having an LED screen too; many also have a nightlight or mood light, which usually can be turned on/off at will. A few have Sleep Mode, a setting where all (or almost all) lights on the unit turn off.
Many Taotronics humidifiers have an empty indicator light or sound, which usually coincides with the automatic shutoff. Many also have a viewing window/gauge so you can look at the water level. The nightlight feature (if there is one) glows from the tank, making it even easier to see the water level.
